Three decades later, in response to strong demands from the people of Barisal, the then caretaker government passed the resolution on November 20, 2006. The law of Barisal University was amended and passed by the National Assembly of Bangladesh on 16 June 2010. On 22 February 2011, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the construction of a building for the university. The university officially started functioning on the temporary campus of Barisal Zilla School from the first day of July 2011. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated the educational activities on the temporary campus of the university on January 24, 2012. President Zillur Rahman and Dhaka University Professor. Md.
